There is now, in Quebec, since few years, a public debate about the closing down of the Davie Industries, the main shipyard in Canada. Professor Michel Boucher, at ÉNAP, argues to close down Davie Shipyard located in Lévis near Quebec City. At the opposite, Ronald J. Carre defends the thesis that Davie Industries must be developed and not closed down. A noon debate has been held, October 8th 2002, at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City between Boucher and Carre, in the framework of the ASDEQ's activities during the year 2002-2003. POSSIBLE SOLUTION in the case of absence of a purchaser
:
A ONE YEAR MORATORY TO ENTRUST THE MANAGEMENT TO TOUGHENED BUSINESS MEN Having a Vision of Development (R&D):
1) Capable TO FORESEE the Future Needs for Persons and Merchandises Transportation,
2) and Willing to Conclude Partnership Agreements with the Biggest Shipyards in the World, Etc
.
Note that it is not the Rule in the Canadian Naval Industry, the Mentality Having Always Wainting for Orders for Ships Construction mainly by the Federal Governement.

The «HIC» for its survival in long term: COULD DAVIE BE ABLE TO PUT IN PLACE A STRONG R&D PROGRAM AND STAY ON THE STREAM?

History:
Davie on the Stock Exchange.

Very interesting point of view of Denise Verreault about the absence of a Canadian and Quebec Maritime Policy.

The sale of Davie would be concluded with Teco Management from Norway, which have taken the place of Group Navamar since the last months.

Teco Management replaces Navamar as the new leader, in May 2006, to purchase Davie

A new buyer for Davie has been approved by the Syndic: The Group Navamar.

The last news in February 2006 announce definitly the closing of Davie. Governements and private sector seem not interested by proposing a recovery plan:
